High on Arthurs Seat on the Mornington Peninsula and nestled at the end of a quiet street, this quirky home, once evoking a rustic charm reminiscent of the French countryside, had fallen into disrepair. Draped in creeping vines, it housed unwelcome forest dwellers. But its views through the pines and down to the bay held an undeniable allure for its new owners, Tim and Vetta Korren.
In collaboration with Niven Builders, the couple embarked on a transformative journey to restore and expand the property, giving it a second life. The extensive project included stripping out aged bathrooms and kitchens and adding a two-story extension with balconies of random paved basalt and rort iron rails, with sweeping views of the garden and water.
Adding to the touch of whimsey, an underground studio was also crafted, creating a secluded haven for the resident artist. In the home's smallest bedroom, with its high ceilings and curved walls, a steel mezzanine bedroom with a translucent floor is accessible via a winding staircase.
Constructed in an extreme fire zone residence added to the technical challenges with Niven Builders working hard to select the correct materials and methods to comply with the stringent building codes while achieving the client's aesthetic dreams
Reflecting on the experience, Tim says, "I've worked with Niven Builders since 2008 and found them to be professional and innovative, excelling in unique, lasting solutions. I’ll continue to partner with them in the future."
